Bringing the Christmas Shoebox Appeal into a digital format was essential during the pandemic in order to ensure Team Hope could continue their work in helping vulnerable children.

Team Hope is a charity dedicated to providing support to children living in poverty across the globe. In 2021, they approached us for a website redesign project that would not only update their website but also bring their biggest campaign “The Christmas Shoebox Appeal” online with a bespoke “build a box” digital feature.

As part of the project, we worked with their team to conduct UX workshops, define the information architecture, craft UX copywriting, and create prototypes. We collaborated with doctype digital to export all CSS and specifications for handover to the development team.

 
 
 
 

BUILD A BOX

Our objective was to capture the feeling an individual gets when physically packing a shoebox with classmates or at home with family. We created an interactive tool called the "online box builder" which would bring a level engagement to the campaign. Given kids were no longer in class being immersed in the shoebox experience with their teachers, it was important to get them excited again.

The online box builder was also a fun, playful activity for parents to complete with their children at home - given the majority were now being home-schooled.

The box builder was accompanied by interactive printable workbooks, which could be re-submitted and sent along with shoebox gifts, providing a way for children here and abroad to feel connected.

The website was entirely de-constructed and energy poured into the creation of a cohesive, user-friendly content strategy

- supported by bright, high resolution imagery and warm, engaging copy.

The website was recognised at the Digital Business Awards 2022, winning an award for its innovative design and impact on the community.
