Established over a decade ago, Restored Hearing was created by two innovative students to help people suffering with tinnitus. Since then, co-founders Rhona and Eimear have broadened their capabilities - moving into the advanced materials space. Their focus always is to help contribute to a quieter world.

The team came to us at a period of growth and change. Not only were they looking to redesign their tinnitus App SoundRelief, but they also required a new umbrella brand that was flexible to move with them as they continue to branch out in a number of directions (including space transportation).

A dive into the advanced materials space and a more focused look at competitor company structure allowed us to develop the best strategy for the umbrella company and how the products would sit within.

We identified an opportunity to create a contemporary digital aesthetic for the brand that immediately positions Lios as a modern, innovative company and separates it from the competition. It was important to highlight the youth and passion behind the brand which is female-led, very different from the men in suits behind many businesses in this industry.

Collaborating with the in-house team, we explored a range of naming options. Focusing on the core brand mission of eradicating noise pollution, a tagline emerged ‘for a quieter world’. Followed by the name ‘Lios’ which is an Irish word meaning; an enclosed space or the space within - ringfort.

This word and its association with ancient stone structures became our starting point for the brand aesthetic. We focused on the ringfort shape for its innately protective values - an infinite set of concentric rings to portray the limitless capabilities of the company and it’s potential.

FROM BRANDING TO APP DESIGN

We designed a custom set of characters for use in the logo suite. Each character was based on a combination of characteristics from a modern geometric typeface and some calligraphic features from the traditional Irish uncial alphabet.

Once the brand identity was complete, we began mapping out three websites to include the main company website for Lios and the two supporting websites for SoundBounce and SoundRelief.

Alongside this, our team reimagined the existing tinnitus App, SoundRelief, in line with the new brand aesthetic - working on all aspects of the App design from UX mapping through to all UI design and handover to developers.

With so many moving parts, attention in this project was paid greatly to planning. We established our milestones early on and followed strict timelines in order to meet the launch date on time.

STRATEGY

We analysed the existing digital presence of the brand and created a strategy to ensure the smoothest transition from Restored Hearing to Lios, introducing the products SoundBounce and SoundRelief under this new umbrella company.

Upon the eventual live date, we ensured URL redirects were implemented to reduce any potential confusion.

After many months of planning, hard work and effort from all sides - Lios was finally introduced to the world just in time for the announcement that the company had partnered with the European Space Agency on a new project to develop its advanced acoustic material SoundBounce for use in the next generation of European space transportation technology. We have take off.
