Harold’s Cross Educate Together Secondary School (HCETSS) is located in Harold’s Cross, on the south side of Dublin.

This was our third Educate Together project having previously created websites for both the North Wicklow and Goatstown schools.

We created a fresh, bright brand identity that heroes the children with an emphasis on the digital roll-out. Following up with a clean, easy to navigate website to launch this new school in a competitive area.

The first step was to create a new brand identity for HCETSS. The branding needed to represent a school that is creative, progressive and modern. It also needed to stand out from other schools in the surrounding area.

In response to the brief, we created a colourful brand identity that incorporated bold, geometric shapes and an open-source typeface that was modern and unfussy. The multi-coloured palette helped to differentiate HCETSS from the duotone palettes of competitor schools. It also helped to reinforce the idea that HCETSS was fresh, vibrant and creative.

The logo icon was created by combining visual aspects of the iconic Robert Emmet Bridge with the letter ‘H’. The icon gave the brand flexibility, it could be used on its own or within the primary logo lock-up as necessary. The final result was a simple but memorable icon that gave HCETSS a sense of identity that didn’t rely heavily on history or heritage.

GETTING ONLINE

When outlining the content strategy for the website, user profiles were established for students, parents and staff, as well as prospective families. The content generated and page structure stemmed from these visitor journeys.

It was also important to integrate the school newsletter as well as the existing school calendar and notification system created by Unique Schools.

We finished this project with training for the school administrator in order to enable small amends, like staff updates and image swaps, in-house.
